Color-Keyed® Compression Lugs

ABB compression lugs are designed with reliable color-coded connectors for superior electrical performance

Image of ABB Electrification Thomas and Betts Color-Keyed® Compression LugsThe ABB Color-Keyed compression connector system is an industry-leading solution designed to deliver secure, high-performance electrical connections for copper and aluminum conductors. Originally developed by Thomas & Betts, this system revolutionized the industry by introducing color-coded connectors and matching crimp dies, ensuring error-free installations and optimal conductivity.

The Color-Keyed method uses precision-engineered dies and compression tools to form the connector and conductor into a solid, homogeneous mass, creating a permanent, low-resistance bond that exceeds UL and CSA standards. This process guarantees high pullout strength, superior conductivity, and long-term reliability.

Available in a wide range of configurations, including one-hole and two-hole lugs, narrow-tongue designs, insulated options, and splices, the Color-Keyed system supports applications from 600 V up to 35 kV. Copper connectors are made from high-conductivity wrought or cast copper with electro-tin plating for corrosion resistance, while aluminum connectors feature an oxide inhibitor compound for secure terminations.

Ideal for power distribution, grounding, and confined-space terminations, the Color-Keyed connectors simplify installation, reduce labor costs, and provide visual verification through embossed die codes for inspection. With options for standard and long barrels, angled tongues, and range-taking designs, this system offers unmatched versatility for commercial, industrial, and utility applications.
