Pre-Wired, Spring-Loaded, and Target Pins

Mill-Max offers discrete pre-wired spring-loaded and target pins in six unique styles ideal for cable assemblies, pigtail wired devices, battery connections for chargers, and other applications requiring a wire-terminated, spring-loaded connection.

This addition complements the Mill-Max existing pre-wired single and double row, 0.100” (2.54 mm) pitch spring-loaded and target connectors. The single-pin wired components offer designers the flexibility to arrange pins as needed without being limited by off-the-shelf connectors. By eliminating the need for wire crimping, manufacturing custom spring-loaded cables, connectors, and other assemblies becomes more efficient and cost-effective. These pins are particularly useful for adapting cables and connectors to existing systems or creating custom setups for testing and development. Both the spring-loaded and target pins feature press-fit designs for mounting into housings, panels, or printed circuit boards and include a shoulder to prevent pin pull-out due to wire stress. When assembling into insulators or boards, the wire is fed through the housing holes, pulled until the press-fit feature engages, and then pressed home on the shoulder to secure the pin.

The pins retain wires with a minimum retention force of eight pounds using a secure, four-point crimp. They use UL1007 hook-up wire, 24 AWG, with PVC insulation. There are six styles available: three spring-loaded and three target styles, with options for wire color and length. Both types of pins are made from precision machined components and are gold-plated for excellent conductivity, corrosion resistance, and durability. The spring-loaded pins are rated for a maximum current of 6.5 amps (5.2 amps derated), have a maximum contact resistance of 20 milliohms, require 60 grams of force at half stroke, have a maximum travel of 0.055” (1.4 mm), and offer a mechanical life of up to 1 million cycles. These applications highlight the versatility and efficiency of Mill-Max pre-wired pins in various electrical and electronic setups.
