Hall Effect IC Potentiometers
ETI Systems’ IC potentiometers play a pivotal role in enhancing the performance and reliability of a wide range of applications
ETI Systems’ Hall effect integrated circuit (IC) potentiometers represent a significant advancement in position sensing technology. Traditional potentiometers have long been employed to measure the position of a mechanical element in electronic systems. They face limitations such as wear and tear, susceptibility to environmental conditions, and limited lifespan. Hall effect IC potentiometers address these challenges by leveraging the Hall effect. In this phenomenon, a voltage difference is generated in the presence of a magnetic field to provide a contactless and highly reliable means of position sensing.
Hall effect IC potentiometers utilize a semiconductor material, often gallium arsenide or indium antimonide, to detect changes in magnetic fields. A rotating, moving magnet generates a small magnetic field, influencing the semiconductor material. The Hall voltage generated is then measured and converted into an electrical signal proportional to the position of the magnet. This non-contact sensing mechanism eliminates mechanical wear and ensures a longer operational life than traditional potentiometers.
These units are offered in compact and robust sizes and single and multi-turn versions. They offer longer operation life, higher vibration resistance, noiseless, multiple outputs, and IP65 options. Hall effect IC potentiometers represent a paradigm shift in position sensing technology, offering improved durability, precision, and compact design. As electronic systems continue to evolve, these potentiometers are poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing the performance and reliability of a wide range of applications.
