The source address filtering feature removes a packet after it completes the route in a ring network. This is very useful for industrial control and automotive applications where ring networks are used. The series supports 4-queue traffic prioritization per port, 802.1p based or DiffServ based. For Diffserve, Microchip supports both IPv4 and IPv6 classifications. The rate limiting is queue based in the KSZ8863. Tail Tag Mode support at Port 3 reduces the overhead of the CPU connected to Port 3 by using a tail tag before frame checksum to determine from which port the ingress packet comes. This way the CPU does not need to look at the look-up table, and it will offload the CPU. Microchip also supports individual MAC addresses for Ports 1 and 2, which is extremely useful for applications where Ports 1 and 2 face different network domains.
