The KSZ8863 offers power savings at various levels. This table lists three typical power management schemes. For a full description of power management schemes supported by the KSZ8863, please refer to the data sheet. In this table, each of the power savings are compared to 100%, 100Base-T traffic. The Higher Power Down mode basically shuts down all of the circuitry in the chip, but there is still a leakage of current, which is why the power savings is not at 100%. Soft Power Down basically leaves the LDO circuitry on. Energy detect mode will shut down the circuitry if no energy is detected on that port for more than a pre-configured time duration of 20ms to 5.1sec. The bypass circuitry basically sends out a pulse every second, so if the cable is connected back, the port will wake up. When one port is in the energy detect mode, the power savings is about 10% of the overall chip power consumption.
